Day One: Arrival in Kigali

Arrival at Kigali International Airport. Go through and accomplish all the necessary immigration procedures. Meet and greet by you smiling tour guide and transfer to your hotel in Kigali for overnight. After your hotel check-in, your guide will brief you about your safari. Overnight in Kigali.

Day Two: Kigali to Akagera National Park

Enjoy morning breakfast and thereafter, check out and have a Kigali City Tour with the highlight being a visit to the Genocide Memorial at Gisozi. For many visitors, a visit to the memorial is such an emotional and touching experience! Continue to Akagera National Park, which is situated in eastern Rwanda, at the border with Tanzania. Akagera National Park is what dreams are made of. It is a great destination where you will find various mammals (11 species), reptiles, and birds that are native to Rwanda. Dinner and overnight at your chosen accommodation.

Day Three: In Akagera – Game Drive and Boat Cruise

Morning breakfast followed by a morning game drive. Residents of Akagera include leopards, lions, hyenas, striped-jackals, elephants, buffaloes, oribi, reedbuck, defassa waterbuck, burchall’s zebra, hippo, roan antelope, bushbuck, crocodile, Masai giraffe among others.

After lunch, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema before you retire at your preferred accommodation in time for dinner and overnight.

Day Four: Akagera to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy sunrise in Akagera. After morning breakfast, check out and traverse through hills, valleys, local villages to Musanze – The Home base of the Mountain Gorillas where you will spend the night.

Day Five: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi for pre-briefing prior to your gorilla trek. Found in the north of Rwanda, the park habituates approximately 300 mountain gorillas. Thirteen Gorilla families are habituated for tracking. In a group of 8 pax, go trailing the gorillas and once you find them, have an hour’s experience and photography of the mountain gorillas. After your gorilla adventure,  return to your accommodation and stay at leisure the rest of the day. Visit twin lakes Burera and Ruhondo later in the afternoon if desired. Dinner and overnight at your preferred accommodation.

Day Six: Parc National des Volcans to Gisenyi

Morning breakfast, check out, and enjoy your gentle drive as you transfer from Kigali to Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu sits at the southern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, along the borders of Congo and Rwanda. It is a very scenic lake with deep blue waters, surrounded by public and private beaches. It is bounded by a chain of rolling hills of Rwanda and Congo. In its midst, you will find many small fishing boats navigating past small islands. Overnight at the chosen accommodation establishment.

Day Seven: At Lake Kivu By the Beach

Sit still at leisure enjoying the sandy beaches of Lake Kivu. Alternatively, take a swim in the lake as it is free of Bilharzia. Besides, it neither has hippos nor crocodiles. Also, you can take a relaxing boat ride to soak in the beauty of the surrounding atmosphere. Along the way, you will come across islands with colonies of bats. Lastly, you could go for a kayaking trip or lounge at the beaches with powder-soft sand. Dinner and overnight at Kivu.

Day Eight: Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Morning breakfast, check out, and have a long ride to Nyungwe. Time permitting, have en-route stopovers to visit some cultural sites, the national museum in Butare and the King’s palace in Nyanza. Continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park southwest of Rwanda for an overnight.

Day Nine: In Nyungwe Forest Chimpanzee Trekking

After morning breakfast, drive to Uwinka information center where you will be briefed about the chimpanzee trek. Thereafter, enter the forest in search of the chimpanzees – man’s closest cousins. In the afternoon, partake any of the optional activities available in Nyungwe if desired on payment of extra. You can choose from the various activities as below;

– Canopy walk

– Primate walk

– Guided nature walk

– Birding

– Hiking experience.

Retire at your lodging in time for dinner and overnight.

Day Ten: Nyungwe Forest to Kigali / Departure

Enjoy sunrise in Nyungwe. After morning breakfast, check out and depart for Kigali with drop off at your residence/airport for your onward journey.
