On this 12 days safari to Rwanda; the land of a thousand hills; we uncover all its national parks, other charming destinations, and Kigali city. These are; Volcanoes national park for Gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking, cultural adventure and Twin lakes adventure; Nyungwe National Park for Chimp trekking, plantation tour, water hike and canopy walk and Akagera national park for a game drive and bird watching.
Other destinations and activities during these 12 days include among others Kigali city tour, guided nature walk and Lake Ihema boat ride. Pickup and drop-off is at Kigali – Rwanda, where meals and accommodation are to your tastes.
Day 1: Arrival and Kigali City Tour
On this day, we will welcome you for your unforgettable vacation. Our company representative will gladly have a chat with you with a glass of juice flowing deep through your throat. Thereafter take a city tour; visiting the genocide Memorial museum to learn about the 1994 conflict between the Tutsi and Hutu.
Lunch will be in the heart of the city, whereas dinner and a nap will be at your hotel. Kigali City is ranked among the safest and smartest cities in the world.
Day 2: Depart Kigali city to Akagera National Park
After enjoying an early morning cup of coffee, you will check out of the lodge for an exit drive to Akagera national park, arriving at the lodge in the park for Late Lunch. Thereafter, retire to the lodge, with an option of spending the evening bird watching or on a guided nature walk. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Game drive and Boat cruise at Lake Ihema
After breakfast, you will head for a 3-4 hour game drive in the vast savanna grassland. You will take the direction of Mutumba hill to the northern sector of the park where you will lookout for some of the mammals parading at the grassland.
Some of the mammals to look out for include; the Maasai giraffes, leopards, elephants, Buffalos, and warthogs among others. In the afternoon, you will have a relaxed 2-hour boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Enjoy the sights of crocodiles, hippos and various aquatic birds and then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Akagera National Park to Nyungwe National Park
Start your day with a lip-smacking breakfast at the lodge, and then checkout for a transfer to Nyungwe national park. There will be an en-route stopover at Nyanza place; a traditional home for Rwanda’s former kings for a tour and Lunch. Thereafter proceed with the drive to the park, traversing undulating hills, breathtaking landscape, and flourishing landscape. There will late arrival at the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest
Get your day started with a mouthwatering cup of coffee, after which you will head to the park headquarters for briefing and registration. This lasts for about 30 minutes, and then the actual chimp trekking can last for about 1-6 hours, plus an additional hour for watching the apes.
Thereafter return to the lodge for lunch, followed by a rewarding 2 hour canopy walk on a magically suspended canopy at the treetop. Thereafter return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Plantation tour and waterfalls hike
After breakfast, you will have a relaxed tour of some of the plantations outside the park. The guide will help you identify what has been grown, how, and its importance. Thereafter return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an evening waterfalls hike.
Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge for a transfer to Volcanoes National park; one of the top safari destinations in the world; hosting a quarter of the mountain gorilla population on earth. This drive is very scenic, with lots of captivating sceneries to admire, while enjoying the vibes of the driver-guide.
You will have a stopover for lunch, and at any scenic Point, before proceeding to your lodge at the park late in the evening for check-in, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Gorilla trekking and cultural adventure
Start this day with a lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge, and then a drive for registration and briefing. Gorillas are only found in the continent of Africa, thus encountering them is a dream come true. This trekking experience lasts for approximately 1-6 hours, plus an additional hour of watching them and taking photos. As you track these apes, expect to encounter several other forest mammals and primates such as monkeys among others.
Thereafter return to the lodge for Lunch; and then an evening visit to Ibyiwachu cultural community, to interact, learn and participate in the Rwandan rich culture and traditions. Sunset dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Golden Monkey trekking and Twin lakes tour
After having a sunrise breakfast meal at the lodge, you will drive to the park headquarters for a pre trekking briefing and registration. Golden monkeys are very charming creatures, playful, and nice; though fear people. Capturing them on camera requires extra attention; what we know you have. This exercise lasts for roughly 1-4 hours, plus a bonus hour of watching the apes, before returning to the lodge for late lunch and then a visit to the twin lakes and return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Kivu – Gisenyi
First this today is a Lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge, and then a transfer to the beautiful white sand beaches at the shoreline of Lake Kivu; a Bilharzia free water body. There is an offer of kayaking, swimming and jet skiing among others. Lunch will be served, as dinner and overnight at sunset, at the lodge.
Day 11: Lake Kivu leisure & exploration
On this day, you will spend hours exploring Lake Kivu; Rwanda’s largest freshwater lake. You will take time to relax, refresh, swim and engage in several other activities by the waterside. Lunch break is at the beach, as dinner will be back at the lodge.
Day 12: Departure
Depending on your departure time, you will check out of the lodge after breakfast for a drive to the airport for your exit flight. Any activity on this day is optional; only included upon on your request.
