Day One: Pick-up from Kigali and Transfer to Uganda

A representative from Gorilla Riddles will be at Kigali Airport or at your residence or hotel in Kigali to pick you up. For those arriving by flight, it should be an early morning flight or latest mid-morning flight to give you time for all the necessary immigration procedures at the airport as well as at the border crossing to the Uganda side. Note that accommodation in Kigali is not included on this day.

Kindly note that you will need two Rwanda visas and one Uganda visa or better still, get an East African single tourist visa that costs USD 100, which allows you to freely move within the three East African countries; Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.

From Kigali, transfer on a 4-5hours journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. The departure time from Kigali should be latest noon. To cross to Uganda, you will require a Uganda visa, which you can get from the border.

Accommodation will be either at the Rushaga sector found in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park or around Kisoro town that is adjacent to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park depending on the permits available at the time of booking.

Day Two: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi or Mgahinga and Return to Kigali

A big day for the Gentle Giants – the rare Mountain Gorilla. After early morning breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing prior to your gorilla quest adventure.

Bwindi is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa with the richest faunal community in East Africa. There are estimated to be 120 species of mammals in Bwindi and it is the only forest in Africa where chimpanzees and gorillas co-exist together.

There are also an estimated 360 species of birds, including 23 localized species found only along the Albertine Rift Valley and 14 found nowhere else in Uganda, and over 200 species of butterflies.

Enter the gorilla sanctuary and track one of the nine habituated gorilla family groups in Rushaga. The beauty of this rainforest is spectacular. The area offers a dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists.

The time is taken and the terrain varies with the movements of these great primates. En route, your guide will point out signs of previous Gorilla activity, including dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots. The time taken to track the Gorillas can take as little as 3 hours to as much as 9 hours before one returns!

Once the Gorillas have been located, your group will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience that many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity.

After your gorilla adventure, get on board your car and drive back to Kigali with drop off at your hotel or residence.
