Day One: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Our representative will meet you up at your hotel or residence in Kigali. After a short safari briefing, transfer South West of Rwanda to Nyungwe, a gigantic afro-montane forest.
Your first en-route stopover will be in Butare – the intellectual city of Rwanda for a visit at the Ethnographic and Archaeological Museum. Thereafter, continue to Nyungwe with another stop at the Uwinka office for registration and preparation for your chimpanzee trek tomorrow. Dinner and overnight at preferred accommodation.
Day Two: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe
After morning breakfast, transfer to the forest for your morning chimpanzee trek. Nyungwe Forest sits at 2500 meters above sea level and receives rain for much of the year. It feeds 2/3rds of all Rwanda’s rivers. In turn, they feed two of Africa’s longest river systems; River Nile and River Congo.
Although all the park’s elephants and forest buffaloes succumbed to poaching before the park was gazeted in 2004, Nyungwe is still worth visiting. It has 75 species of mammals, 38 reptiles’ species and 32 amphibians’ species. Its claim to fame is 13 species of primates. These include of rarities like Ruwenzori colobus, Golden monkeys, Grey cheeked Mangabeys…..and the usuals are tropical Africa like Blue monkeys, Mona monkey, Owl faced monkeys and L’ Hoest’s monkey.
Throughout your chimp tracking adventure, you will be in the hands of ranger guides who are experienced and knowledgeable. They will share with you so many interesting things about the park, its botany, butterflies and animals. Return to your accommodtion and stay at leisure the rest of the day.
Day Three: Nyungwe to Kigali
Wake up to the amazing and beautiful sounds of nature. After morning breakfast, check out and depart for Kigali with drop off at your residence / airport for your onward journey.
