The 3 days Congo Lowland Gorillas Tour takes visitors to Kahuzi-Biega National Park to trek and see the extraordinary Eastern Lowland Gorillas. Scientifically known as Gorilla beringei graueri, the Eastern Lowland Gorillas are the largest Gorilla species only found in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The existence of these gorillas makes Congo the only place to see both lowland and mountain gorillas. This Trip begins from the City of Kigali (in Rwanda) and heads to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the East of Democratic Republic of Congo and returns back to Kigali.
Day 1: Travel from Kigali to Bukavu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo
Meet and greet with your Safari guide at any location in Kigali, be briefed on the 3 days Congo Lowland Gorillas itinerary highlighting the routes to use, stopovers, en-route sites to visit and of course the star of the show. Have a short City Tour to Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, Caplaki Craft market and local markets although it is not a guarantee to visit all these sites. Drive towards southwestern side of the Country via Nyungwe Forest National Park where you are likely to see primates and forest birds. Lunch will be en-route and arrival in Bukavu Town in the evening.
Day 2: Eastern lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
Enjoy a delicious breakfast with a cup of tea/coffee, cereals, fresh Tropical fruits and freshly squeezed juice before leaving for Kahuzi-Biega National Park. Continue to the Park Headquarters for brief orientation on the rules and regulations of trekking the largest gorilla species, for a smooth and memorable experience. Start the trek through the forest while hiking the Kahuzi and Biega Volcanoes, spotting several wildlife species and admiring other natural features in a bid to find the lowland gorillas. After spending one hour with the Eastern lowland Gorillas, enjoy your packed Lunch and continue to the neighboring communities for a cultural tour before heading back to your Hotel.
Day 3: Transfer from Kahuzi-Biega National Park to Kigali for departure
Have your breakfast from the Hotel in Bukavu Town and embark on the journey back to Kigali City. Drop-off at the Hotel to proceed with your extended Rwanda safari or to the Airport to catch-up with your flight. This marks the end of the 3 days Congo Lowland Gorillas Safari.
