The two destinations, Nyungwe national park and Kahuzi-biega national park are so fascinating to visit and you will engage in low land gorilla trekking which is different from mountain gorillas and chimpanzee trekking.
Interestingly, you will have a chance to visit different countries in one safari and discover the Rwanda genocide memorial Centre while in Kigali as you find your way to Nyungwe national park. Nyungwe forest has over 13 primates that can be spotted while on this chimp trekking experience.
Day 1: Pick up in Kigali and transfer to Nyungwe N/Park
Welcome to Rwanda-the land of a thousand hills as you will notice while driving through the country. The driver guide will pick you from the Kigali International Airport and transfer you to Nyungwe national park. The park is famous for sheltering 13 different primates including chimpanzee – our fellow cousin and other primates Blue Monkeys, colobus, red-tailed monkeys and grey checked mangabeys among others.
As you head to Nyungwe forest national park, you will have an option of visit the genocide memorial center and this will depend on your arrival time. More stories about how people perished during the 1990s liberation wars can be discovered at this point. Proceed and head to the booked accommodation ad prepare for the next day adventure.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and transfer to Bukavu city
Head to the park headquarters where the briefing exercise takes place after enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. The briefing part covers areas like checking your trekking permits, informing you about the dos and don’ts like no noise-making, no feeding animals, no littering the park premises among others and the information concerned about the forest. Then you are required to have your drinking bottle of water, and energy-giving snack well dressed in the trekking attire and be ready to enter the forest.
With help of the park ranger guide, start the search in the jungle and then meet then, spend an hour as you enjoy their presence while taking memorable photos. This will be followed by heading back to the office after 3 to 4 hour in the forest and meet your driver who will drive to the lodge, have lunch and transfer to Bukavu town crossing the Ruzizi border taking a 2 hours’ drive journey. You will drive to the hotel where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi-Biega national park
Drive to Kahuzi-Biega national park offices after breakfast at the hotel where you will receive information about the forest and inhabitants, dos and don’ts like not using flashlight cameras, no making noise, no feeding animals, standing at a distance of 7 meters while in the presence of gorilla family among others.
After heading into the forest to search for these Primate species and locating them, you will have an hour with them as you enjoy their presence. After 2-6 hours of trek, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and then have leisure time as you enjoy the scenic view at the lodge.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali – Rwanda and departure
Transfer to Kigali, crossing via the Ruzizi border after breakfast and on arrival in Rwanda, you will either be dropped at the airport or hotel depending on your plan and this will be the end of your tour.
