In this 4-days Rwanda gorilla and golden monkey safari, meet some of the rarest and most sought after primate species in their natural habitat; the mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys. A count of individual mountain gorillas in their natural habitat; the Virunga ranges total about 1060 worldwide. On the other hand, golden monkeys are some of the world’s loveliest apes.
The jungle is their home; and two of the four days will be enough to track and find them feeding, relaxing, and enjoying the misty tropical Jungle of Africa. Other activities include cultural adventure and exploring the twin lakes. The trip is well planned, as it starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda.
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon landing at the airport, our expert driver-guide will be glad to meet and brief you about this 3 days’ vacation in Rwanda; days in which you will reunite with some of the world’s rarest primate species; the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
On a 2-3 hour drive north of Rwanda to volcanoes national park, enjoy watching the rolling hills, plantations, and the scattered homesteads in the countryside. Arrive and check in to the lodge for lunch, relaxation, dinner, and a nap. The lodge has a serene environment to spend the evening.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and a cultural encounter
After an early morning breakfast meal at the lodge, you will set off to the park headquarters for briefing and registration. The briefing lasts for about 30minutes; with explanations of the trekking dos and don’ts and allocation to the Gorilla group to search. This is followed by the actual exercise; an activity that lasts for approximately 1-6 hours, depending on your trekking speed and how far the apes have moved.
Maneuvering through this Jungle is a bit strenuous, but exciting, as you get exposed to different plant species, reptiles, birds, and some other primates. There is a stealthy echo from the residents through to the gorilla territory you have been allocated to track.
After spending an hour with your beloved cousins the mountain gorillas, uncovering their jungle life and appearance, have a lunch break, little rest and visit the Rwandese community living around the park in the evening, calling off the day at sunset for dinner and a nap.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and visiting the Twin Lakes
Today starts with a yummy breakfast meal at the Lodge, and then an early morning transfer to the park headquarters for document verification and pre trekking briefing by the park rangers. Golden monkeys are one of the most beautiful and active primates in the world, they spend their day feeding on the bamboo shoots and skipping from one tree branch to another.
Tracking the golden monkeys lasts for about 1-4 hours, plus an additional maximum hour of photography and watching these rare apes. Thereafter, withdraw from the jungle for lunch, and then the evening spends exploring the Twin lakes. The day is brought to an end with dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Departure
Start your day a relaxed way with a lip-smacking breakfast at the lodge, and then hit the road to Kigali airport for your flight. An option of an early morning guided nature walk is available.
