This safari takes you to visit mountain gorillas of Volcanoes national park, northern Rwanda and abundant wildlife in Masai Mara national reserve of Kenya. In these seven days, you will enjoy more of the wildlife such as golden monkeys, wildebeests, rhinos, zebras, buffaloes, elands, hippos, hyenas, lions, gazelles among others and have a chance to visit one of Africa’s richest cultures -Rwandese where you will get involved in different activities such as traditional dances and music and story tales by the elders. Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes national park
Arrive in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes national park located in the North-Eastern part of the country and covers an area of 160 Square kilometers. The park is at the slopes of the magnificent mountain of Virunga and is comprised of five out of eight mountain gorillas that can be discovered while on the visit.
The park as well inhabits mountain gorillas that have a good history attached to Dian Fossey, a female research who saved several of them from poachers. This entire story can be traced as you visit her memorial research Centre in Karisoke. Arrive and head to your booked lodge.
Day 2: Golden monkey trekking and Iby’Iwachu community tour
Head to the forest after breakfast for a briefing where instruction to guide you will in the forest be given to you. The park ranger will be available to be able to maneuver in the forest as you try to find the beautiful rare primates golden monkeys. After head to Iby’Iwachu cultural village where the Rwanda culture is displayed through the storytelling by the elders, traditional dances and music, handicrafts like baskets and mats among others. The community walk this village will take you to see the traditional healers with spiritual powers.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking
Head for gorilla trekking in the park after briefing but these Primates don’t like flashlight cameras. Also, an hour with them will be allocated to you while in their presence and then watch they play with their young ones, the silverback practicing its leadership skills and the female gorillas are grooming their young ones and then after 3-6 hours of trekking, head back to the lodge.
Be served with lunch and then have option activities of visiting the Karisoke Research Center where Dian Fossey was buried with others gorillas that were killed by poachers. The trail is rewarding with primates and bird species such as verve monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys among others. The day will end at the lodge after taking dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali and fly to Nairobi – Kenya
Have a leisure breakfast and depending on your scheduled flight, drive to Kigali city and maybe take a short city tour of the genocide memorial Centre and learn stories about how the innocent souls perished in the civil wars of Rwanda.
After the driver guide will drop you at the airport in Kigali and fly to Nairobi, Kenya. Here you will meet the tour representative on arrival who will welcome you and make a transfer to the booked hotel.
Day 5: Transfer to Masai Mara national reserve
Early morning enjoys breakfast and then transfer to Masai Mara national park which will be the last destination for your safari. Also, known as Mara, has a lot to be spotted such as Masai giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos, wildebeests, leopards, gazelles, buffaloes among others. Amazingly, this is a gateway to wildebeest migrations as they come from Serengeti national park – north of Tanzania.
On your arrival, embark on the afternoon or evening game drive which will grant you an opportunity to spot most of the wildlife while enjoying the sunset. Check in the booked lodge for your dinner.
Day 6: Full day Masai Mara game drives
As you take a full day in Mara fascinating plains, you will need to have your packed lunch and then roll in the plains while watching over different animals. Watch out for the migration of millions of wildebeests and thousands of zebras and gazelles, other mammals include dik-dik, lions, crocodiles, topis, hippos, leopards, cheetahs and rhinos. The game drives are rewarding as they take you to the most concentrated area where animals can be traced. End the day after going back to the lodge in the evening.
Day 7: Transfer back to Nairobi and fly back home
Take a morning drive while discovering more of the wildlife in this area after breakfast. Thereafter head to Nairobi and the driver guide will drop you at the airport to be able to check in for your departure flight. This will be the end of your 7 days Volcanoes and Masai Mara National park safari.
